WWF TOXIC CHEMICALS ACTION
LET'S CLEAN UP EUROPE'S ACT
Dear President Prodi,
Dear Mrs Wallström,
The news that the European Commission intends to improve the regulation of chemicals in Europe is welcome
but not before time. Such reforms will undoubtedly have extremely positive implications for all organic and inorganic life.
All responsible people outside our continent are looking to Europe to lead the international community toward
robust policies in the field of chemicals management .
I am particularly concerned about the continued use of chemicals that accumulate in people and wildlife. This
is a perverse form of 'sustainability'.
I urge you to ensure that the new proposals include a complete phase-out of chemicals that build up in our
bodies (so-called "very persistent and very bioaccumulative chemicals"), so that our children, and their children, can live
in a world free from contamination.
Neither we - nor the other organisms with which share this planet - produce offspring in order for them
to inherit a stinking and contaminated environment created by our own and previous generations!
Sincerely,
(Name and address)
A Proact Personal Support Initiative!
