New Proact Initiative Spring 2006

Progress on implementation of EU legislation on hunting and trapping is slow. It sometimes appears that the Government of Malta is deliberately dragging its heels in the mistaken belief that favouring the hunting lobby wins elections.

The EU also appears to be slow in bringing Malta to book on not fulfilling its responsibilities and confusing signals on granting of derogations for spring shooting of turtle doves and quails are emanating from Brussels.

It's high time we reminded Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas that other EU citizens, and birders worldwide, are not prepared to accept tolerance of bad practice on Malta.
