LOCAL CAMPAIGN FOR CONSERVATION OF THE WOODCOCK  Scolopax rusticola IN THE WALLONIAN REGION OF BELGIUM

The regional conservation society in Wallonia (the southern French-speaking part of Belgium) - Connaissance & Protection de la Nature du Brabant (CPN) - has called for support in having the Woodcock Scolopax rusticola placed on the list of specially protected species in the region. The species, which is still on the list of huntable species (Annex II to the Birds Directive (79/409/EEC)) is considered to be in decline in most of Europe.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

 

Join the local conservationists and send an email to the Wallonian Minister for the Environment, Monsieur Benoît Lutgen, asking him to place the Woodcock on the list of specially protected bird species in the region.

We are writing to you to request that you place the Woodcock Scolopax rusticola on the list of specially protected species in your region.

Recent scientific studies have shown that the survival of this species throughout Europe is endangered and an European Union Action Plan is being formulated..

We hope that you will give this request serious and positive consideration and demonstrate to  the European Commission that Wallonia can set an example in the field of biodiversity.

Plusieurs scientifiques ont étudié cet oiseau qui est en voie de disparition dans toute l'Europe.
