The Game Fund, is directly answerable to the Minister for the Interior,
Mr Andreas Panayiotou.
The more public profile taken by the Game Fund Service in raiding restaurants is probably due
to support from the new minister - his predecessor Mr Christodoulou was not noted for his energy in combatting the trappers;
indeed it was rumoured that he put a brake on the activities of the Game Fund Service in the past.
In this respect readers may feel that a letter of encouragement to Mr Panayiotou may give the operations
against the illegal trappers and hunters a boost.

EXCELLENT WORK BY THE GAME FUND SERVICE
To:
Minister for the Interior Mr Andreas
Panayiotou
Dear Minister,
It is a pleasure to see, in the run-up to Cyprus' accession to the European Union,
that the Game Fund Service - who are immediately answerable to your ministry - are stepping up their efforts to
implement the EU Birds and Habitats directives to which your government is pledged.
We hope that the firm and public action recently taken
against the illegal sale and consumption of 'ambelopoulia' will continue to be followed up by relentless prosecution of the
suppliers; and confiscation or destruction of their equipment.
We are aware that the Game Fund is limited in its resources but they do an excellent job. Their success depends a
great deal on the whole-hearted support from the responsible Minister, including rapid and robust public rebuttal of the criticism
aimed at them from certain quarters.
We hope that the improvements in operational cooperation with the British authorities in the Sovereign Base Areas will
continue and that this will lead to an eventual elimination of the criminal and brutal destruction of one of our common European
natural resources - the migrant bird species. We wish you and the Game Fund Service every success in your future efforts.
Yours
sincerely,
