ANOTHER PRESSURE POINT!
In Club Méditerranée's reply to Proact they stated:
"(We have) ..commissioned a consultant recognized for
the quality of its analysis in term of environment to lead an impact study on the area and to ensure the good integration
condition of our project on the Tifnit site.
We therefore assume all the conditions are gathered to bring the
best protection possible to the environment of National Park of Souss Massa and more precisely to the Bald Ibis."
The consultant commissioned by Club Méditerranée is CAREX.
We should also let CAREX, as a central figure in the feasibility studies, know of the worldwide concern about the threat to
the last habitat of the Bald Ibis. A suggested text follows but is only a guide. Post, email and fax addresses are given below.

THREAT TO THE LAST HABITAT OF THE BALD IBIS
In his reply
to our communications to the Managing Director of Club Méditerranée, his Senior Vice President for Development, Construction
and Asset Management, M. Bertrand Julien-Laferriere, stated that you - as the consultant company commissioned for the project
- "would lead an impact study on the area and ensure the good integration condition of our project on the Tifnit site."
He assured us that your company is "recognized for the quality of its analysis in term of environment".
We
are relieved to hear this. Nevertheless, as you are currently heavily involved in drafting the report and the detailed recommendations,
we would urge you to give proper weight to the ecological aspects, which are clearly overriding in this case. We have expressed
similar concern to the GTZ with whom you are cooperating on the impact study.
Since the recent appeal for support
by the Moroccan ornithological society GOMAC (Groupe d'ornithologie du Maroc), conservationists, birders and nature lovers
in Europe and the rest of the world have expressed their concern to a number of governmental, business and private organisations
and companies.
We sincerely hope that your studies and investigations will take into account the anxieties of numerous
ecologically concerned individuals world wide, and that these concerns will be reflected in your findings; and in the tenor
of your discussions with BirdLife International and other interested parties, which will take place shortly.
You
bear a heavy responsibility in this matter; which will, inter alia, determine the future of yet another threatened species
on our planet.
In the confidence that you will live up to your reputation and contribute positively to the survival
of the last worldwide Bald Ibis population, we remain,

sa réponse à nos courriers adressés au Président Directeur Général du Club Méditerranée, le Directeur pour le développement,
les constructions et le patrimoine, M. Bertrand Julien-Laferriere, nous déclarait que vous, en tant que cabinet d'expertise
mandaté pour ce projet - "conduiriez une étude d'impact sur la zone, pour s'assurer des bonnes conditions d'intégration
de nos projets sur le site de Tifnit."
Il nous assurait aussi que votre société était "un cabinet reconnu
pour la qualité de ses analyses en matière d'environnement."
Nous sommes soulagés d'entendre de tels propos.
Cependant, comme vous êtes actuellement occupé à rédiger ce rapport et à formuler des recommandations détaillées, nous insistons
pour que vous accordiez toute son importance à l'aspect écologique, clairement prioritaire dans le cas présent. Nous avons
exprimé la même préoccupation au GTZ qui collabore avec vous à l'établissement des études d'impact.
Depuis l'appel
récent à l'aide de la Société Ornithologique Marocaine GOMAC (Groupe d'ornithologie du Maroc), les protecteurs de la nature
et les ornithologues en Europe et dans le reste du monde ont exprimé leurs craintes à plusieurs organisations et sociétés
gouvernementales, commerciales et privées.
Nous espérons sincèrement que vos études et expertises prendront en
compte les aspirations des nombreuses personnes qui dans le monde se préoccupent des aspects écologiques de ce problème et
que leurs arguments seront inclus dans vos conclusions et dans les discussions que vous tiendrez prochainement avec BirdLife
International et les autres intervenants.
Vous détenez une lourde responsabilité dans cette affaire qui, entre
autre, déterminera l'avenir d'une espèce en danger d'extinction imminente.

hauteur de votre réputation de compétence et de sérieux et que vous contribuerez positivement à la survie de la dernière population
