Dear Sir,

We acknowledge receipt of your email dated June 19th, 2001 regarding the Tifnit tourist development in Marocco and we are taking good note of your concern regarding the preservation of the colony of Bald Ibis.

I can ensure that Club Méditerranée, as well as the Moroccan Authorities, pays particular attention to this matter and more generally to the protection of environment in Marocco. As you probably know, Club Méditerranée has shown for more that 40 years a strong commitment to respecting the natural asset of this country.

Club Méditerranée has commissioned a consultant recognized for the quality of its analysis in term of environment to lead an impact study on the area and to ensure the good integration condition of our project on the Tifnit site.

On another hand, GTZ has charged experts and advisers to review the final findings. We therefore assume all the conditions are gathered to bring the best protection possible to the environment of National Park of Souss Massa and more precisely to the Bald Ibis.

Our teams work in close link with the Head Office of the National Park of Souss-Massa, the various experts and specialists (GTZ) and with the Birdlife representatives in Marocco. As a matter of fact, Club Méditerranée has modified the original Sonaba perimeter of the development area (Sonaba is the Public Company in charge of the Tifnit Development) in order to contribute to the protection of the feeding grounds of the Bald Ibis.
The final issues will be decided in with the approval of all the concerned parties and after all studies are completed and approved.

I wish I have answered through this letter to your concern, which is also ours, about the protection of the natural and ecological asset of Marocco.

Sincerely,

Bertrand Julien-Laferriere
